Perth and Australia’s Southwest

Leaving Shark Bay and heading down the coast of the state of Western Australia brings us to Perth, its capital and largest city which is the highlight of this Destination, along with the coastal delights of Rottnest Island, the historic port city of Fremantle, and Australia’s southwest corner.

Bookended north by Cape Naturaliste and south by Cape Leeuwin, the southwest corner of the continent features photogenic lighthouses, unending sandy beaches lapped by a turquoise Indian Ocean, sheer cliffs which drop precipitously down to the water – and further east along the coast – the spectacular bays, beaches and rock formations around Albany on WA’s south coast.  Closer to Perth, Rottnest Island is a sublime playground for all manner of recreation.  Hopping on a bicycle is an easy favorite amongst the many ways to explore the shimmering vistas to be had around every corner.  Bathhurst Lighthouse and Wadjemup Lighthouse both pierce a cobalt blue sky with their bright white and stone exteriors contrasting starkly against the blue-on-blue panorama.  Fremantle and Perth both set on the Swan River showcase eclectic architecture – from the historic to the modern.  Sights to behold under the blazing Western Australian sun.
